A Celtic cross loosely in the style of a carpet page from The Book of Kells or the Lindisfarne Gospels.
This Celtic cross is not set with in a circle as most modern portrayals are. For the most part Celtic crosses in manuscripts of the 6th - 9th centuries did not use the circle. However the stone crosses did, which leads many historians to believe the primary purpose of the circle was to prevent the arms of the cross falling off. Although the image of Christ within creation also works well. This image was originally hand drawn but coloured and enhanced on computer
