Aim
To reflect on the Word of God being made flesh at Christmas.

Preparation and materials
• An OHP transparency showing the three sayings (see point 1).

Assembly
1. Using the OHP transparency, show your audience these three sayings: ‘Fine words butter no parsnips’, ‘All mouth and no trousers’ and ‘Hard words break no bones’.
2. Ask for ideas to explain what these sayings mean. Hopefully someone will correctly answer with something like, ‘They all show contempt for people who talk a lot but do little.’
3. Continue by asking the students, whether they would rather be someone who is known for their words or someone known for their actions. Most of us would probably say the latter...
