Aim
To understand that spiritual and emotional growth and not physical size are the most important things in life.
Preparation and materials
• The parable of the mustard seed can be found in Mark 4.30–32.
Assembly
1. Tell your audience that you are going to talk about an issue that may concern them, especially if they are still in Year Seven. This is the problem of size.
2. The writer of Psalm 8 in the Old Testament could see clearly when he said to
God:
I look up at your heavens, made by your fingers, at the moon and stars you set in place -- ah, what is man that you should spare a thought for him, the son of man that you should care for him?
Psalm 8.3–4
3. The psalmist is saying: ‘Look, God, I’m so small compared to the rest of your creation that I just don’t see how I can be of any importance to you or anyone else.’ Most of us have probably had thoughts like this from time to time...
